Strongly condemn the Government's thuggish attack on working people

The working people must come forward against the Government's thuggish attack

President of the National Movement for a Just Society, Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya, in a special statement emphasized that he strongly condemns the Government's thuggish attack on the freedom and democracy of the working people by denying them the right to strike for their rights and justice.

The statement issued by the President of the National Movement for a Just Society, Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya further states.

The National Movement for a Just Society pays close attention to a statement made by the Minister of Justice of the country that the right to strike of working people should be banned in Sri Lanka. If the idea of the Minister of Justice is also the idea of the present Government, then it should be considered as a deadly attack on the democracy of the country and the freedom of the working people.

It is our strong view that if there is such an arrangement within the Government, it should focus on the possible adverse consequences and reverse the decision. Not only that right, inherited by working people is something that cannot be given to anyone else, but that right can be considered as a powerful factor that will be a necessity for social justice and lasting peace.

As a Society, The National Movement for a Just Society emphasizes that a Trade Union should not be a holder that is working for narrow intentions of political parties. Even the right to strike inherited by the working people was despised in front of justifiable people by the so-called institutions which acted on such narrow political aims. If a group which came to power through the shoulders of such people is trying to suppress the right to strike of the working people, we consider it as a terrible criminal conspiracy.

Accordingly, we call on all working people in the country to unite unconditionally to defeat such attempts. To stand up against authoritarian rulers who are preparing to suppress the rights of working people. And to expose to the country the so-called organizations and their conspiratorial policies in the process of justifying such attempts.
