The only senior of the UNP to challenge the arrival of Ranil Wickremasinghe in Parliament

One of the senior leader of the United National Party, issuing a special statement to “lankanewsweek” revealed that he will not get involved with any political activity of the party in the future and he will resign from all activities, responsibilities and duties of the United National Party.

Mr. Jhon Amarathunga who expressed his objection over the decision taken by leader of the United National Party Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe to enter parliament form the national list, breaching the promise given to him, further stated to “lankanewsweek" 

"I will not get involved with any political activity of the United National Party in the future. I will lead a free life by resigning from all activities, responsibilities and duties of the party. Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe always took the position of appointing me to the parliament from the national list as promised and agreed. But he did not keep this promise. They would have further thought of going to the parliament from the national list after getting defeated.

Leader of the opposition and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya , Mr. Sajith Premadasa and the team, is always inviting me to join them. I have not rejected that invitation. There is no reason to reject this invitation either. They have realized my importance as a senior leader of the United National Party. I have never been defeated in an election.   I entered the national list without contesting the 2020 general election, on the special request and invitation of Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe and the United National Party. There is no tradition in the UNP for those who were defeated to enter the parliament from the national list"
