Nobel Prize for Physics for 3 Scientists in 2019

2019-10-11 14895

Will their inventions change our conceptions of the world?

This time the Noble Prize for Physics had been awarded to 3 Scientists in recognition of their yeoman service to the field. They are James Peebles, Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz.

One half of the prize was awarded to Peebles for "theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology." He developed his theoretical framework for over two decades which is the foundation of our modern understanding of the history of the universe. His major concern was to understand how the universe has evolved from the Big Bang to present day. His work set the stage for a “transformation” of cosmology over the last half-century, using theoretical tools and calculations that helped interpret traces from the infancy of the universe. He is a Canadian born Cosmologist and serves Princeton University as Albert Einstein Professor of Science.

Commenting on his achievement he advised those who expect to enter the Science filed

“you should do it for the love of science," "You should enter science because you are fascinated by it."

His model reveals that we have discovered only 5% of the Universe and another 95 % to be discovered.

Mayor and Queloz were credited for their initiative in evolution in astronomy. They have discovered 4000 exoplanets in the Milky Way. Exoplanet is a planet outside the solar system. Their scope was to look for unknown worlds and found the first planet outside our solar system in 1995.

Mayor is from Switzerland and lectures at the University of Geneva while Queloz teaches at the University of Geneva and the University of Cambridge too.
