Orders to immediately arrest all those who escaped from the Tri-Forces

In order to curb the current wave of killings, as well as due to the involvement of deserters in various criminal acts, Defense Secretary Sampath Tuhiyakontha has ordered the security forces to arrest all those who have illegally deserted from the tri-forces. Speaking to the media, he also stated:

We have drawn attention to the recent incidents. Many military personnel have been arrested. As a solution to that. There is actually a social problem here. We have actually confirmed through investigation that military officers who illegally deserted the military before the end of their full service period have a high probability of being involved in the underworld.

We gave an order a few days ago to take action to arrest such people. Those who receive weapons training and leave within a short period of about a year or two, which means they are more likely to be involved in the underworld. We have provided facilities for arresting them through the military police. We have come to that decision."

A significant number have now left the military service and it has become a social problem. There is currently no political protection for underworld activities. Necessary legal action is being taken in this regard. An audit has already been conducted regarding firearms and a significant number have been taken under the Ministry of Defense.
