Colombo District United National Party Leader and former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake emphases that all should come together to turn on the light and rebuild the country and reduce the burden of the people's lives without cursing the darkness.
Ravi Karunanayake made these observations while answering the questions asked by journalists when he joined an observation tour of Weragoda College, Wellampitiya, Colombo to investigate the death of a female student.
After the inspection tour, Ravi Karunanayake advised the authorities to take immediate steps to build all the substandard constructions in the school. In addition to this, steps were also taken to implement a special program under the patronage of former Minister Ravi Karunanayake for the renovation of the school.
Ravi Karunanayake, Colombo District United National Party Leader and former Minister of Finance, who gave further comments also said.
"It is a difficult time for this country.17 months ago, the economy of this country collapsed and the people were extremely helpless. There was nothing including oil, gas, electricity and fertilizer. An era of queues. We all should accept that the country has recovered within the period from then to now. But people's lives are still difficult, that's true.
Everyone should accept that President Ranil Wickremesinghe presented this budget in a very difficult time. The country has been directed in the right direction with this budget. Therefore, we all should come together and let the light shine without cursing the darkness.
It was one group that toppled the country. But another group has to build the country. People think that they are the only ones who work hard. That story must be corrected. We all must come together. We must create a work order that is safe for the people. Everyone should work hard to move the economy forward. A country cannot be built by giving everything for free.
There are about 17 lakhs in government service. There are about 60 lakh more in the private sector. All these people should live together. Cost of living is equal to all. Recovery is not easy to rescue a country when the economy has collapsed. Economic expansion is the only way to rebuild the economy and reduce the living burden of the people. Exports should be increased and debt burden should be reduced."
