Janaka Rathnayake has revealed his intention with "Neth" radio that he will contest the presidential election as a non-partisan public candidate. He also said that he will present a series of new economic policies to manage the crisis economic situation in this country that has been prevailing for seventy five years.

Rathnayake has further mentioned that he took this decision based on the request received from the country's religious leaders, senior government officials, professionals and the general public.
