The country is ruled by a group of selfish avaricious

That is why the country has gone backwards and the people are helpless

The Archbishop explains the reason for the country's crisis

Archbishop of Colombo, Rev. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith emphasized that Sri Lanka as a country has gone backward for the entire 74 years since its national independence and the people have been in dire situation because of a selfish and avaricious group of people who are ruling the country.

Rev. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith also pointed out that what these selfish greedy leaders did from 1956 to 2009 was to come to power by creating a division between nations.

Rev. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith was making these observations while addressing a catholic event held to mark the 150th anniversary of the noblest Japamala Parameshwari's Church in Aluthgama, which belongs to Saint Anna's Church in Beruwala where he further stressed.

"These people tried to spread religious separatism. They tried to create separatism among religions on the basis of the Easter Sunday attack. We did not get caught in that trap.  But that was their target. What did they do after that? They tried to create an economic division. Crated social system that increases violence and terror in the country.

So what happened when all this was done? People could not live a happy and comfortable life. All the people of the country are living in a very uncomfortable situation. People don't know what will happen when they wake up tomorrow morning. We should work to change this corrupt system in this country as much as we can.

If this corrupt system continues, our country will go to an even more dangerous destruction. The country should be led on the right path. That is our responsibility and commitment. Dear brothers and sisters, that is our responsibility as Christians.
