Threats to MPs not to vote for Ranil

Speaker complained to the IGP

Police too is on alerts

A group of MPs have complained to the Speaker that they receive threats via social media that if they vote for Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe in the parliamentary polls to be held tomorrow, to elect the President,  they will have to face bad consequences.

Accordingly, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has submitted a written complaint to the Inspector General of Police to investigate the related postings on social media.

Since exerting undue pressure on parliamentarians is an offence, Police say that they are too monitoring the posting of threats on social media.
