Responsibility of the Government to make those aspirations a reality

The youth should get the respect of the nation

President of the National Movement for a Just Society, Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya, issuing a special statement stated that the aspirations of the youth in the struggle are examples to the country and they deserve the respect of the entire nation.

The statement issued by Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya states further.

Today, ordinary civilians, led by the youth of this country, have come forward voluntarily to do their duty for the country. That approach is highly commendable. They deserve the respect of the whole nation. They unanimously request for essencial political reforms to establish democracy in the country. Solutions to many problems faced by the people of this country today. To restore the country's economy with proper management.

Of course these demands are the most reasonable and justifiable. None of these are demands for the pursuit of their narrow personal goals. Demands for the security of the country as a whole, for the benefit of the people and for the benefit of future generations. Therefore, the Government, led by the Hon. President, must first and foremost listen to their demands on behalf of the entire nation. They have to be flexible in these demands, regardless of their personal power or privilege.

We would also like to make one request from our beloved children who raise their voice on behalf of the country. Please maintain the peace that you have protected so far along with the vitality of this struggle. And to further preserve the unbroken unity maintained between all parties. We are making this request because special reasons are emerging from it. That is because several conspiracies have already been uncovered to undermine your unity, determination and peaceful quality.

There is already a growing suspicion that planned conspiracies to create a hostile atmosphere towards you, especially among government security forces, are likely to continue in the future as well. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to maintain the dignity of yourself and the country as it has been so far protected. We make this appeal to you because the honor of you and your country is very important. We also consider the acceptance of the abolition of the executive presidency, which has been a great disaster for our country by all sections of society and the expression of that objective earnestly. 

Our organization has been dedicated to that end since its inception. The late Most Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera dedicated the last days of his life for that purpose. Today, we consider bring this objective forward more than ever before by political forces including the entire youth of this country as a positive step. Therefore, we request from all political parties in this country, and especially all Members of Parliament in the current Parliament, to take immediate action in this regard.
