The United National Party (UNP) has taken steps to increase the membership to Rs. 100 which remained at Rs. 20 for a long time which is an increase of 400% with immediate effect.
The UNP has taken steps to increase the membership to Rs. 100 on a proposal by the party's National Organizer, Sagala Rathnayake, who is also in charge of the party's membership promotion program.
Although the UNP's membership promotion program was launched last week in the Colombo District, Mr. Sagala Rathnayake and hit team had not been able to achieve the desired goal due to the reluctance of many to become a member of the UNP by paying Rs. 100.
A young man from the United National Party's affiliated National Youth Front expressing his views to "lankanewsweek" questioned whether helpless people who do not have 100 rupees to buy a loaf of bread can buy a UNP membership card for 100 rupees.
