The Holy Bible is divided into two major Testaments called the Old Testament and the New Testament. Jesus’ story starts in the New Testament. Jesus is believed to be the son of the God, the Almighty who created this world which is the base of the Christian ideology.
The Old Testament is written by various individuals who got the directions and the wisdom from God. These individuals who were in various occupations were not interconnected with each other and they wrote on their own under the direct guidance from God.
What is the wonder in the Holy Bible is the predictions given by the writers of the Old Testament about Jesus' birth with clear descriptions about Jesus. These predictions which came prior to his birth are called prophecies. Biblical prophecies are anything but vague, detailing everything from the place and manner of Jesus’ birth to the way he would die thousands of years before the birth of Jesus. Hence these prophecies made by the writers of the Old Testament which came true in the New Testament clearly demonstrate that the Bible isn’t merely the work of Historians and Poets and the writers were guided by someone who could see the future. Hence the Christian ideology about God cannot be ignored as a mere myth.
The writers who predicted the future events are called Prophets. Will see how these Prophets wrote prophesies about Jesus. The name of Jesus was titled as Messiah and Immanuel in these prophecies.
It is a common knowing that Jesus was rejected by people and crucified to death as per a judgment delivered by Kind Pilot who knew that Jesus was innocent and does not deserve this capital punishment. The way Jesus would be rejected, arrested by Roman Soldiers, deadly assaults he would undergo and the crucifixion had been foreseen by many Prophets who wrote in the Old Testament.
Prophesied by Isaiah 53:3 in the Old Testament
“He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
Like one from whom people hide their faces, he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Confirmed the prophecy by John 1:10-11 in the New Testament
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
Confirmed the prophecy by John 12:37-38 in the New Testament
Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.
This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: “Lord, who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
But despite all the miraculous signs He had done, most of the people did not believe in Him.
Prophesied by Isaiah 53:7 in the Old Testament
"He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth."
Confirmed the prophecy by Mark 15:5 in the New Testament
"But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed."
Prophesied in Psalm 22:17-18 written by King David of Israel, Moses, Solomon, etc. in the Old Testament
"I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing."
Confirmed the prophecy by John 19:23 in the New Testament
"When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom."
Prophesied in Psalm 22:14-16 in the Old Testament
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me. My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce[b] my hands and my feet.
Confirmed the prophecy by John 19:31-37 in the New Testament
Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken, and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”
Jesus was created by God as he created every other thing and Jesus is believed to be the bellowed son. God sent his son to the world to pay the ransom for our sins, inherited by Adam and Eve. God could not send anyone else because the ransom should be paid by a person who should have a perfect formation in the physical body.
Prophesied by Isaiah 53:5-6, 8, 12 in the Old Testament
“But He was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped, and we were healed! All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the guilt and sins of us all. From prison and trial they led Him away to His death. But who among the people realized that He was dying for their sins – that He was suffering their punishment? I will give Him the honors of One who is mighty and great, because He exposed Himself to death. He was counted among those who were sinners. He bore the sins of many and interceded for sinners.” ()
Confirmed the prophecy by 1 Peter 2:24 in the New Testament
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
Jesus knew the purpose of his visit to this world. He knew that he would undergo great suffering before his death. Jesus knew that he was sent to this world by his father, the creator of everything. Since all Jesus’ disciples escaped Roman soldiers who came to the Gethsemane garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in the night to arrest Jesus, he too would have had a trouble free escape.
This scripture was written by King David in approximately 900 B.C.; where crucifixion as a capital punishment had not yet even been invented. Jesus was beaten with a lead-tipped whip that ripped His flesh from his back.
Isaiah 50:6 prophesied in the Old Testament
“I offered my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard. I did not hide my face from mockery and spitting.”
Psalm 22:14, 15 prophesied in the Old Testament
“My life is poured out of me like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My strength has dried up like sun-baked clay, my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead. My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet.”
Psalm 69:21 prophesied in the Old Testament
“They offer me sour wine for my thirst.”
Jesus was buried in a Rich man's Tomb
Prophesied by Isaiah 53:9 in the Old Testament
“He had done no wrong, and He never deceived anyone. But He was buried like a criminal; He was put in a rich man’s grave.”
Confirmed the prophecy by Matthew 27:57-60 in the New Testament
“As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who was one of Jesus’ followers, went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long linen cloth. He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance as he left.”
The Christian theology is based on the belief that Jesus died on the Cross and was raised from the dead after 3 days. There are plenty of evidence to prove the resurrection of Jesus which I will discuss later on.
Confirmed the prophecy by 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 in the New Testament
“For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures”.
The Old Testament prophesied that Jesus will not stay buried but will rise from the Dead
Prophesied by Psalm 16:10 in the Old Testament
“For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.”
Confirmed the prophecy by Matthew 28:6 in the New Testament
“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”
Confirmed the prophecy by 1 Corinthians 15:6 in the New Testament
After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
Confirmed the prophecy by Mark 16: 9,15 in the New Testament
When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it. Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to the two of them while they were walking in the country. They returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either. Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
