President of the National Movement for a Just Society, Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya issuing a condolence message stated that the demise of the humanitarian and artiste, Sunil Perera was an irreparable loss to the entire society that respects democracy.
The statement issued by Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya regarding the death of veteran singer Sunil Perera states as follows.
The demise of artist Sunil Perera is an irreparable loss to the entire society that respects democracy. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of Sunil Perera, the leader of the Gypsies band who was a popular singer.
Sunil Perera was not only a musician who won the love and respect of thousands of people in this country. He was an avid citizen who stood over the philosophy which he believed and principles associated with it. He always rejected the narrow limits created by untrained man. He actively advocated for democracy in society and the honesty of the people. That is why he constantly stood up against all forms of hegemony.
I first came to know Mr. Sunil Perera, who was very interested in the work of the National Movement for a Just Society, through the intervention of Mr. Gamini Viyangoda. Since then he has given his fullest support in all our endeavors, putting forward his sincere aspirations to make the future of this country better. Without any narrow objective.
He was, in fact, a responsible citizen. I consider his departure at a time when such people are needed more by this country, as a great loss to the whole society that values democracy.
We extend the deepest condolences of the National Movement for a Just Society to his beloved spouse and to all, including his children and brothers and sisters. May he rest in peace.
