With the Taliban capturing power of Afghanistan, thousands of locals and foreigners fled the country. The United States took the lead in evacuating US citizens as well as other citizens by US commercial flights.

On Tuesday (24) a group of Netherlands staged a peaceful protest against the Afghan refugees who landed in the Netherlands seeking asylum.

The peaceful protest, attended by around 250, was held in front of an Army camp in   De Harskamp in the Municipality of Ede since about 800 Afghans who arrived in the Netherlands on Monday (23) were settled in the Army camp.

Especially the Netherland youth participated at the protest actively by singing nationalistic songs and displaying banners with slogans against providing asylum to Afghan refugees.

When the young protesters started setting fire on tires of parked vehicles, the police had to use dogs to disperse the crowd.

The emergency shelter in Ede was opened on Monday (23) when the first evacuees from Afghanistan arrived in the afternoon. The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers announced that it would open a fourth emergency shelter in Nijmegen. The facility will have space for 750 to 1,000 people.
