Easter Sunday Investigation to be independent

“ We are not satisfied with the investigation process”  

Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith emphasized that the Investigation into Easter Sunday attack through an independent process. His Eminence made these comments at a press conference held at the Archbishop's official residence yesterday (13).

His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith stated that he intends to write to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to express his views on the current situation of the Easter attack and its investigations.

"I am writing to the President today. I prepared this letter after analyzing the investigations into the Easter Sunday attack. We expect a more effective investigation over the attack. We were of the opinion that the attacks carried out by the suicide bombers on Churches and Hotels on 21st Easter Sunday, 2019 was a severe threat to the security of the country. We informed our stance to all political parties. We cannot say that we are satisfied with the contribution of the leaders of these political parties with the investigation.

We informed all political parties about it. We cannot say that the leadership of those political parties is conducting these investigations in a manner that we can be satisfied with until today. We urge the government not to throw these investigations under the carpet after bringing few people to court to cover up the matter while conducting it in an unprofessional manner”
