UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized the President and the government to take immediate action to rescue the country and the people from the COVID-19 pandemic without letting the lives of the people to risk by pointing out the economy while acting on the advices of the medical experts
Former Prime Minister and leader of the United National Party, Ranil Wickremesinghe made these comments in a special statement, issued to the media on Sunday (23) regarding the steps to be taken to eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic and the statement further states. ……..
The people of this country need 30 million COVID-19 vaccines. There is a difficulty in getting that quantity within this year. Therefore, there is a need to re think and develop a new program for controlling COVID-19 pandemic.
Those who received the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine should be given the second dose. However, the government should take action to bring the vaccine to the people as there is a shortage of it. The government and some private individuals are trying to bring in the required number of vaccines.
Although the government has carried out vaccinations, there is no ability to get all citizens vaccinated this year. Hence what is most important is to seek medical advice to control the further spread of the virus. The most timely decision is to comply with medical advice. So don't sacrifice people's lives by showing off the economy. Sri Lanka is not a “Bhairava” mountain. The Sri Lankan rupee depreciated because the Central Bank printed money.
.If $ 200 million had been invested in the vaccine in November 2020, there would be no shortage of vaccines in this country. The virus spread further as Indian tourists were brought to the country concerning only of foreign exchange. Existing COVID-19 control committees are unable to control the pandemic.
If it is a necessity to close the country, the country should be locked down and relief should be given to the people who need relief. The President and the Cabinet should take the powers vested in them by the Constitution and make necessary plans to control the spread of the virus. Do not degrade the Cabinet. We will take the necessary steps to ensure the health of the country. We urge the President and the government to take the necessary steps to save the country and the people.
