Political Analysts predict the announcement of Attorney General Dappula De Livera to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa that he wants to remain in Sri Lanka to continue to serve the people of the country shows that he will most likely enter active politics after retiring from office.
Attorney General Dappula De Livera has made this announcement to the President, rejecting the steps taken by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha to appoint him as Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Canada.
Attorney General Dappula De Livera refusing the appointment has further informed President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha that he is willing to serve the public remaining in the country while thanking the President for appointing him as Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Canada.
The political arena has been heated by Attorney General Dappula De Livera issuing a statement to the press without simply stopping at officially refusing the appointment by the President upon which various opinions, debates and dialogs are emerging.
When a group of UNP stalwarts inquired about his interpretation of the socio-political discourse regarding the Attorney General from the Leader of UNP, Ranil Wickremsinghe , he said that it could be speculated that Attorney General Dappula De Livera would enter active politics after retiring from his office.
Meanwhile, a powerful diplomat who is very close to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksha and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksha told 'lanakanewsweek' that if Dappula De Livera enters active politics, it will not from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna but either from Sri Lanka Freedom party led by Maithripala Sirisena or Samagi Jana Balawega led by Sajith Premadasa.
This powerful diplomat further pointed out that the SLFP is in dire need of a strong figure who is recognized by the catholic community to address them and represent the catholic vote base.
