‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman dies of cancer at 43

Actor Chadwick Boseman, who played Black icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown before finding fame as Black Panther in the Marvel cinematic universe, died on Friday (Aug 28), foreign media reported on Saturday (Aug 29).

43-year-old Chadwick Boseman died of cancer at his home in Los Angeles, with his wife and family by his side, reported foreign media, his publicist Nicki Fioravante had told The Associated Press.

According to his family, Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago; however, the actor had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis.

Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television before his first star turn in 2013 .

His King T’Challa character was first introduced to the blockbuster Marvel movies in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” and his “Wakanda Forever” salute reverberated around the world after the release of “Black Panther” two years ago.

Black Panther was the first superhero film to get a nomination for best picture at the Oscars.

He also played the same role in other Marvel films Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
