Marry Mubaiwa, the wife of Zimbabwe's Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was arrested and remanded after appearing in court to face charges of fraud, money-laundering and attempted murder of her husband. She was initially detained on suspicion of contravening the country's exchange control act and of fraud.
From 2018 and May 2019 Mubaiwa withdrew money from her foreign currency account in Zimbabwe and had deposited 900,000 dollars in few Bank Accounts in South Africa under the pretext of paying for goods bought in that country.
Mubaiwa attempted to murder her husband while she accompanied him to South Africa for medication by taking him to a Hotel refusing to take him to the expected hospital and his Security Officers forcibly took him to a clinic.
Prosecutors said 'with intention to cause serious harm, Mubaiwa went to the hospital ward and asked his Security Officers to leave him ,claiming that she wanted to discuss some confidential issue with her husband”.
She allegedly removed an intravenous line and a catheter from Chiwenga causing him to bleed profusely according to the prosecution.
