With the intention of conducting the Presidential election campaign of SLPP in a carbon-sensitive and environmental friendly manner, Project "Nidahase Husma" was launched recently.
Through this project, we have taken measures to minimize the carbon dioxide emission caused by our election rallies and to manage the bio degradable waste from our campaigns.
At the end of the election, we intend to receive a certification from an independent authority accrediting that the carbon emission of our overall election campaign was at a zero level.
Taking the second step of this project, an awareness program and a planting of 500 trees took place in parallel to the Kaduwela rally held today.
The awareness program was conducted by the former Head of the Department of Zoology of University of Colombo, environmentalist, Prof. Sarath Kotagama. Environmentalists Prof. Lakdas Fernando, Prof. Hemanthi Ramasinghe and Mr. Samantha Gunasekara also are part of the panel of experts involved in this initiative
