Italian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Rita G. Mannella, said that Italian Government will extend technical support as well as investment opportunities to Sri Lanka to generate electricity though using Solid Waste that had been problem to the country.
The Italian Ambassador gave this assurance during an official discussion held at the Ministry of Power, Energy and Enterprise Development with the subject Minister Mr. Ravi Karunanayake.
The Italian Ambassador who expressed her satisfaction over the generation of Electricity in Sri Lanka also told that Sri Lanka will face a problem of catering the increasing demand on Electricity. The generation of Electricity with the use of Solid Waste is the best solution for this problem.
This discussion was based on the possibility of introducing a power generation plant that can consume 100 to 300 tons of Solid Waste. The Ambassador has given an assurance to extend the support of the Italian Government for further action with this regard.
The cheapest source of Electricity generation in Sri Lanka is water which had been used to the optimum. Minister Ravi Karunanayake expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for focusing on a method to generate Electricity using a cheap source which is environmental friendly and expressed that Sri Lanka is expecting the fullest support of the Italian Government for this project. Minister Ravi Karunanayake also stated that he hoped the long-standing Italian-Sri Lanka friendship and bilateral cooperation would be further strengthened through this project
