Prime Minister decides to contest the Presidential Election..!

Leader of the United National Party, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe has decided to contest the Presidential Election as the candidate of the UNP led United National Front.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe informing his decision at a special meeting held with the leaders of the United National Party on Friday (6) at Temple Trees stated further a decision can be taken at the Working Committee meeting if any one comes forward by challenging it.

Responding to his stance , Kabeer Haseem, Malik Samarawickrama and Ranjith Maddumabandara had informed him that he should further think about Sajith Premadasa as he is more popular which is confirmed by the large number of people attending his rallies.

Responding to that Mr. Daya Gamage emphasized that a large number of people are attending to Mr. Sajith Premadasa’s rallies since he himself declares his Presidential candidature and if Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe is officially declared as the Presidential candidate we can get down ten times of mass than Mr. Sajith Premadasa.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka had stressed that a country cannot be governed been based on grassroots and village level and a crucial Election such as Presidential Election that covers the whole country cannot be won. Therefore, the Presidential candidate of UNP should be a person who represents all religious leaders including the Maha Sanga , civil society, minorities, working people, intellectuals, academics , upper middle class, middle class, village and grassroots levels and Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe has all these qualifications.
