It was a Cathy Pacific Flight which started the journey from Japan to London via Sri Lanka. The Flight that took off at 7.00 p.m. was flying over 38,000 in the sky. There was a British group among whom a lady was apparent by suffering from a mental disorder. One of the group, was a Doctor. There was a Buddhist Monk just 2 seats away from this group. All of a sudden this lady started agitating with the group. Eventhough the rest tried to bring her under control, she became more aggressive. Since she started battering others, the situation was severe.
Eventhough the Doctor proposed to give her an injection, not only her but others in the group too opposed it. All the passengers got panic and the Airhostesses who rushed to the scene also could not do anything. The Sikh national who was sitting next to the Buddhist Monk was trying to tell some thin to the Monk and the Monk noticed that the Sikh was telling something to the Doctor pointing him out. The Sikh who rushed to this Monk along with the Doctor, with due respect appealed to interfere with the situation.
The Monk instructed the Doctor to bring an empty cup while putting his hand to his sack. The Monk put some liquid to the cup and seemed to chanting some verses and instructed the Doctor to spray some water on to her face and if possible to get her to drink some water from it. When the Doctor sprayed few drops of water from this cup , it was not difficult to pour the balance of water in to her mouth since she became calm miraculously. The situation came under control drastically. Then the Monk pulled a thread roll from his sack and having extracted a piece, instructed the Doctor to tie it on her hand. It was also done safely without any resistant from her. She, who fell on a brief sleep suddenly woke up and started looking at others as if nothing took place. The British group gazed at the Buddhist Monk with a great respect. When the Doctor tried to offer something to the Buddhist Monk , he vehemently refused. When the Sikh national too told him that a gift as a token of appreciation is not required, the Doctor joined the group with a surprising look on his face.
When this Buddhist Monk got down from the Flight at Katunayake this group as well the Airhostesses saluted him with a great respect. The Monk got down from the Flight feeling a great relaxation, since he could heal a Non Buddhist through a Buddhist ritual. They did not know what was in this cup. It was water chanted by Pirith. This is none other than Ven. Bengamuwe Wimala Thero, a retired Principle who now serves as the Chief Incumbent of Sudharmaramaya at Pethangala. The Thero is rendering a great social service to the area. Eventhough this incident took place some time back , he did not disclose this to anyone. We came to know that this Thero has been engaging in these types of meritorious activities from the Buddhists as well as Non Buddhists who visit him seeking his help for various problems. The foreign Buddhist Monk call over this Thero regularly.
We requested from the Thero to explain what took place in the Flight some time back.
“This is not a random incident. I was on my way to participate at a Buddhist Convention in Japan. On my way back I noticed that this lady was abnormal when she just entered the Flight along with the group. But I did not think that it will lead to a serious situation.” “Where ever I go, I used to have Pirith chanted water with Pirith chanted thread in my sack”.
That is why it was easy for me to mediate with the situation.
“See… they are not Buddhists. But how this miracle took place even 30,000 feet above at air.. ?
He questioned.
Do not take this as a talent of mine. Take it as a confirmation of the power of Buddhism. After my involvement, I took the incident totally out of my mind. A mass call over this Thero daily since his miraculous power is spread from mouth to mouth. I extracted this from an article published by Mr. Thihagoda Upasena Liyanagama in Lankadeepa. Eventhough as a Christian I too believed the miraculous power of Pirith that I have seen in a Temple in Taiwan. When I visited this Temple there was Pirith Chanting. The purpose of Pirith chanting is to charge water which is used for healing purposes. My experience in this regard is really at a poor position with my involvement. But I sow that the Monks who were chanting the Pirith were holding a nuula that is wrapped to a fairly large water pot. Since my interest was so high, I managed to get closed to the Water pot.
After some time I could see the surface of the water in the pot was jerking as if someone is purposely doing it. But I got confirmed that there was no such an involvement. Hence it happened as a product of the chanting.
When I inquired this from a Monk in Sri Lanka , I was told that if the Pirith Chanting is successful , the water in the container should be charged with an energy.
For you to think …
