The steps taken by the Electricity Board to provide supply electricity to the entrance of the Chaithya and Archeological Site of Kuragala, Balangoda that had no electricity, has been temporarily suspended by Department of Archaeology Archaeological Department had granted permission to provide electricity to these two sites on a request on few conditions. Eventhough Kahawaththa Regional Office on instructions of the Subject Minister went there yesterday ( 27 ) to provide electricity, they were unable to accomplish the task. The reason for this was the letter sent by the Regional Assistant Director of Archeological Department ( Rathnapura ) to Kahawaththa Regional Engineer about the suspension of provision of electricity to Kuragala Archeological Site and entrance to the Chaithya on 27.06.2019.
When inquired from the Archeological Department about this issue, the relevant Officer has refused to make any comments. Minister confirmed that even though Department of Archeology had given permission for this requirement , today evening the same Department has sent a letter to his Ministry requesting to suspend this project. The Archeological Department has to take the total responsibility for this suspension since it was them who made this request too and there is no political involvement in this incident, emphasized the Minister.
