Christians and Catholics celebrate Christmas throughout the world in a grand scale. Another category , Modern Armenian countries celebrate Christmas on 6th January. How did Christmas emerge? Why does Jesus birth is celebrated on 25th December ?.
Jesus’ date of birth is not mentioned in Gospel books or Acts in the Holy Bible. We will look at few verses in the Holy Bible. It is mentioned in the Luke 2:8 that Sheppard’s were looking after their Lambs in the night when they received the good news of the birth of Jesus from an Angel. But in December the weather in Jerusalam, where Jesus was born, is really cold and Lambs and Cattle would not have been in the field. Hence Sheppard’s looking after their herd in this night where Jesus was born is very unlikely.
According to Luke 2:1-4 , Parents of Jesus , Mary and Joseph came to Bethlehem to participate at a Census declared by Empire of Rome. But a Census will never be conducted in the Winter.Early Christians, Disciples or those who kept a close association with Jesus never celebrated either Christmas or Jesus’ birth. They paid concern over his death in the cross and his ascension from the death. It was after 300 years from the birth of Jesus, the Christmas emerged as a celebration.
December 25th was declared as Jesus’ birthday by a Roman Scholar who lived in 4th Century in his list of dates of deaths of Catholic Bishops and warriors. Eventhugh there was a lot uncertainty on the birth of Jesus at that time a fair amount of people had a concern upon that. However the Christmas is celebrated on December 25th by Roman Catholics and Christians and 6th January by modern Armenian countries as the day of the birth of Jesus
