Emphasizes the national movement for a just society

The General Secretary of the National Movement for a Just Society, Sunil Jayasekara, has issued a statement saying that ignoring the majority of the Auditor General's recommendations is an endorsement of corruption. The statement also states:

It is a tragic situation that the relevant institutions have failed to implement the recommendations in relation to ninety-five percent of the more than 2,500 reports issued by the Auditor General of the Government in the past. That background is an encouragement to confirm the corruption and waste that exists in the country. Therefore, the National Movement for a Just Society requests that the attention of those responsible be drawn to this matter without delay.

There is a deep discussion in the general society of this country as well as at the political level on the eradication of corruption and fraud. Due to its impetus, many laws, including the Bribery or Corruption Act, have also been reformed. However, the stated position of the current government states that even these are not sufficient in view of the challenges facing our country. Accordingly, the intervention that needs to be made as a nation for the future good of the country and for the integrity of the public sector is extremely serious. And important. In such a context, such neglect cannot be ignored at all.

Meanwhile, considering the high service rendered by the Auditor General's Department despite the lack of sufficient financial and human resources, other sectors that should be given strength for it should contribute to the effort to prevent corruption and waste by fulfilling their maximum responsibility. We should consider it as a national responsibility.

Therefore, we once again emphasize that special attention should be paid to this matter and we believe that the government will also pay its attention to providing the necessary facilities to maintain the role of the Auditor General's Department at a higher level.
