There is no basis to arrest Manusha - Criminal Investigation Department

With the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) having submitted evidence before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that there is no need to disclose the facts to arrest former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara, lawyers have moved to withdraw the anticipatory bail application filed by the former Minister.

A petition was filed by a panel of lawyers including President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris on behalf of Manusha Nanayakkara before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court seeking the issuance of an anticipatory bail application and it was considered on the 20th.

Presenting evidence before the Colombo Chief Magistrate, the CID stated that there is no need to disclose the facts to arrest the former Minister. Accordingly, the CID had stated before the court that there is no need to arrest him and yesterday, the former Minister went to the CID and gave a six-hour statement.

The petition regarding the issuance of anticipatory bail applications was considered again today and the lawyers appearing for the petitioner inquired about the developments in the investigations and moved to withdraw the anticipatory bail application petition as it was stated that no investigation was underway to arrest the former minister.
