Muttiah Muralitharan, the World’s highest Test wicket-taker has been nominated as the “Most Valuable Test Player of the 21st Century by the Wisden Cricket Magazine. The Magazine which is the most famous of its kind, had listed 30 best cricketers of the 21st century and Muralitharan topped the list. The listing was based on data, collected from 2000 to 2020.
Out of 800 wickets, taken by Muralitharan, 573 had been taken between 2000 to 2010, during which he had played 85 matches. Even though James Anderson had taken 584 wickets during this period, Murali could top the list since Anderson had played 161 matches to get these wickets.
Muttiah Muralitharan entered Test cricket in Sri Lanka in 1992 and when he retired from cricket in 2010, he had taken 800 wickets in 133 matches.
