The Executive Committee of World Anti-Doping Agency made decision in a meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland to ban Russia from International sport events for 4 years. Accordingly Russia flag and the National Anthem will not be allowed at major sport events such as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Football’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The decision was a result of Russia’s Anti Doping Agency being declared non-compliant for manipulating and deleting laboratory reports of cases of using prohibited stimulants in January 2019.
Athletes who can prove that they are not engaged in doping scandal will be able to compete under a neutral flag.
World Anti-Doping Agency also had given 21 days to Russia to appeal against the ban. The appeal will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
In 2018 too, 168 Russian Athletes competed under a neutral flag at the 2018 Winter Olympics after Russia was banned for 4 years following the 2014 Games.
